The following letter was sent out to all Western members regarding the 2017 Western show season.  If you did not receive the email you can read the letter sent on January 26th, 2017 below:

Dear PJHSA Western Members,

Over the past several year, as we have all noted, there has been a continual decrease in participation in the Western shows - a decrease that has been noted by many Western show organizers, including the regional 4H.  We, the PJHSA board, have had many discussions with various Western show managements about the problem, and have tried various ways to increase attendance, including decreasing membership costs, offering more and varied classes, doing mass mailings and using social media to advertise our shows, and offering a year end drawing of a $250 gift certificate just for attending our shows.  All of these efforts, however, have not resulted in an increase in attendance.

In talking to various Western trainers and participants, we have heard time and again that they felt that Penn Jersey was a wonderful circuit but that they would not come/bring their students due to "lack of competition”.

Unfortunately, this has become a vicious cycle that we have been unable to break.

This year we have approached many show managements but have been unsuccessful in securing locations for our Western shows.  We, therefore, regretfully have to announce that we will be taking a hiatus from having a Western series for the 2017 show season as we rethink and reorganize how we organize our Western shows to make them more appealing to Western show managements.  We do intend to have Western classes at our April 30th Spring Fun Show at Molasses Creek and at our August 20th Benefit Show at the Montgomery County 4H grounds, and we sincerely hope that you will attend those shows.

We have not, nor do we intend to, permanently "give up" on the Western circuit, and would appreciate any suggestions, input, and help from our Western compatriots.  Please come help us reorganize the Western side so that we can again provide you with quality Western shows in the future.

Thank you for your understanding.  Please feel free to contact any board member with your thoughts or suggestions.
